NECC x Supersmile

Smigel Supersmile Dental Clinic

The partnership between The New England Center for Children (NECC), Supersmile®, and New England Dental Group (NEDG) continues to bring meaningful change to the lives of children with autism—one smile at a time.

Since its grand opening in September 2023, the Smigel Supersmile Dental Clinic has transformed the way NECC students access and experience dental care. What began as a vision to make routine dental visits less daunting has become a groundbreaking model of support, compassion, and progress.

The brush features patented 45° angled bristles based on the ADA recommended brushing angle.

The shape ensures a precision reach beneath the gum line (the sulcus) where plaque accumulates and causes decay.

The brush head also features five tufted rows of soft, polished, rounded nylon bristles that make for the softest, most thorough brushing experience you've ever had.

Through the Smigel Supersmile Dental Program—a desensitization protocol designed to gently guide children with autism through the steps of a dental visit—NECC students are learning critical life skills that promote long-term wellness. With the on-campus clinic now in full operation, more than 100 residential students have access to consistent, high-quality care without the stress of long commutes or unfamiliar environments.

The collaboration is deeply rooted in the legacy of Dr. Irwin Smigel, the founder of Supersmile and a pioneer in aesthetic dentistry who always prioritized the well-being of his patients. His son, Robert Smigel, continues that mission today by supporting initiatives that make dental care more inclusive and accessible. “My father believed in making a difference through dentistry. This clinic embodies that belief,” he shared at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

As of today, the clinic has already served dozens of students—some of whom once struggled to complete a basic dental exam. Now, with the guidance of their teachers and the expertise of the NEDG staff, these students are taking brave steps toward independence and better health.

This is more than a clinic. It’s a testament to what’s possible when shared values, compassion, and innovation come together. Supersmile is proud to continue supporting NECC’s mission and remains committed to promoting oral health for all—especially those who need it most.
